Christianity and the Arts

The Arts (and our relation to them and responsibility towards them) is a subject close to my heart. I plan on doing a series on the topic in the future.

Shai Linne recently gave a lecture on the subject at Capital Hill Baptist Church, and it is worth a listen. You can download it  here. While I am at it I’d like to point you to some more helpful resources; Philip Ryken has a short book called Art for God’s Sake: A Call to Recover the Arts that is of immense help in sorting out the issues. Another must-read is Francis Schaeffer’s Art and the BibleBoth of these short books are worthy of your time.

If you are interested in art, these books will help you think biblically about the purpose and nature of art. If you couldn’t care less about art, they will provide a biblical defense for the importance of art. God is the great Artist and He has made us in His image. I recommend these resources, and look forward to discussing this subject further in the future.
